Despite suffering from the flu Cairoli has managed to compete on his home turf in the Italian National Championship recently. Comprising of four rounds of two races each, the Italian National acts as a proving ground before the MX GP Championship kicks off.
The first round of the Italian Championship at Ponte a Egola was a good one for Cairoli. In spite of having a bad arm during the first race of the second round at Faenza, Cairoli managed to finish in second place, he later said “My arm got quite hard but I tried to relax and shake it out and in the end I managed second.”. During the second race the rider got caught up with several other riders and found himself at about twentieth position, but after some typical Cairoli riding he managed to finish a very respectable third.
During the third round of the Italian Championship at the Cingoli circuit in the Marche region Cairoli performed very consistently finishing third in the first race and first in the second, collecting some valuable points. Overall this gives the Sicilian rider 545 points putting him first position, ten points above rival Philippaerts and fifteen points ahead of Frossard.
The final round of the Italian Championship takes place today at the Gazzanedi Presceglie circuit in Brescia. Hopefully Brux Sport wearer Cairoli will ride well to take top place on the podium!
